Over 300 divers unite for record-breaking ocean cleanup

The initiative ‘Beneath the Blue – Underwater Cleanup’, supported by the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an and implemented by Sustainable Future Initiative (SFI), has made its mark in the Guinness World Records for bringing together the most divers in an underwater clean-up held at multiple locations.
On November 8, 2025, more than 300 licensed volunteer divers took part in the record-breaking event, which was organised across two sites, Fishermen Sea Port in Al Taweelah and The Cove in Abu Dhabi. The divers worked in perfect coordination for a 15-minute synchronised mission, successfully collecting over one tonne of marine debris. The achievement highlighted the power of teamwork and the community’s shared commitment to protecting the environment.
Before the cleanup, all participants attended detailed safety and environmental training sessions led by certified dive instructors and environmental experts. These briefings ensured that the record attempt followed the highest standards of safety and sustainability.
Through the ‘Beneath the Blue’ initiative, Ma’an aims to encourage environmental responsibility and inspire the community to take part in meaningful social action. The authority continues to strengthen its commitment to addressing social priorities and supporting initiatives that promote sustainability.
By engaging volunteers from different backgrounds, the project also reflected the importance of collective action in protecting marine ecosystems and preserving the natural environment for future generations.
Officials from Ma’an and SFI expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the recognition from Guinness World Records serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a common purpose to keep the ocean clean and protect the planet for years to come.
