Scammers are increasingly using public events and announcements to deceive residents

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police on Saturday warned the public against fraudulent calls, messages, and links that appear enticing but are designed to steal personal and financial information.
Abu Dhabi Police said scammers are increasingly exploiting public events, seasonal occasions, and official announcements to deceive residents and pressure them into revealing banking details.
In an advisory posted on X, the police urged the public never to disclose passwords, bank card numbers, PIN codes, or security codes such as the CCV printed on cards. They warned that scammers often impersonate official entities, offering fake prizes or urgent requests to “update” account information.
Residents were also advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links, which remain one of the most common gateways for electronic fraud.
“By staying alert and avoiding unknown links, you protect yourself and your family from online scams,” the police said.
As part of its ongoing “Stay Alert” (Khallak Hather) campaign, Abu Dhabi Police released a new awareness video urging the public to safeguard personal data and remain vigilant.
The video reiterates that any request for banking details, no matter how convincing, should be treated as a red flag.
Authorities called on anyone targeted by a scam attempt to report it immediately through the Aman hotline at 8002626 or via SMS to 2828.
“Scammers take advantage of events and occasions to mislead individuals and extract financial information through deceptive tactics,” the police said, emphasizing that early reporting helps prevent further victims.
