New Delhi: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced the first-of-its-kind UAE-India exhibition celebrating visionary leaders of the two countries — Shaikh Zayed and Mahatma Gandhi.
The initiative allows people to gain an insight into the lives and legacies of exceptional leaders, commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The interactive content showcases rare photos, videos and objects representing the life, works and philosophies of both renowned leaders using cutting-edge technologies.
The Zayed-Gandhi Digital Museum would be launched in Abu Dhabi, aligning with the ‘Year of Zayed’ programmes.
The displays inform and honour the legacy and honourable memory of the UAE nation’s founding father and India’s father of the nation. It also reaffirms the historical ties and shared values of peace, tolerance and sustainability between the UAE and India.
The launch of the Zayed-Gandhi Digital Museum comes as part of Shaikh Abdullah’s visit to India.
Shaikh Abdullah met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and together they expressed support for the ongoing strategic dialogue aimed at expanding energy partnerships between the two countries.
During the visit, Shaikh Abdullah also met O.P. Kohli, Governor of Gujarat state; M.J. Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs; Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas; and Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser.
He visited the Gandhi Ashram at Sabarmati, the residence of Mahatma Gandhi in Ahmedabad, as well as the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, popularly known as Sidi Saiyyid ni Jali locally. He also visited Mughal emperor Humayun’s tomb in Delhi and toured parts of the 30-acre garden surrounding the tomb, the first of its kind to be established in the Indian subcontinent.
The UAE foreign minister also recognised renowned Indian Dr Zulekha Daud, in the presence of her family members and Dr Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Banna, the UAE Ambassador to India.
Shaikh Abdullah presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Dr Zulekha in recognition of her five decades of valuable contributions to the health care sector in the UAE and her tireless efforts to boost welfare levels for UAE citizens and residents.
