80% of residents in the UAE are addicted to internet, says survey
Dubai: The UAE is hooked to the internet, with 8 out of 10 residents constantly online. A Gulf News survey undertaken by YouGov also reveals that the users are happy with the service provided by Etisalat, and that they use the internet primarily as a medium for communication, be it through chatting, email, VoIP or blogging.
Online censorship is a talking point, but residents are split over its acceptability. It may be mentioned that currently some Dubai residents enjoy unrestricted web access in the free zones and Emaar developments.
In our latest survey, 779 UAE residents were polled on various aspects of internet use. They were asked questions on a range of issues, including internet usage, online services such as shopping and online banking, censorship, and the use of internet as a medium for communication.
