Cairo:  Some 700 tonnes of aid from the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) yesterday reached the Gaza Strip.

The aid came under the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The aid was overseen and successfully reached the Gaza Strip through coordination with the UAE Embassy in Cairo. The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) supervised the arrival of aid with the RCA in Cairo and Palestine, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East-UNRWA.

Mohammad Bin Nakhira Al Daheri, the UAE ambassador to Cairo, and permanent representative at the Arab League who saw the aid convoy off told the press that this was not the first time the UAE had supported and backed their Palestinian brothers, but the fourth time in the context of the RCA's humanitarian programme.

He also expressed his thanks to the Egyptian government for facilitating the convoy's entrance to Gaza.
