A mass wedding of 170 nationals from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will take place on August 6 to mark the accession of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. One hundred nationals from Abu Dhabi and 70 from Al Ain will be married in the wedding being organised by the Marriage Fund.

Fund Director-General Jamal Al Bah said that mass weddings help hold down wedding costs and bring national couples together. "Mass weddings are also becoming part of national celebrations such as Accession Day."

The Marriage Fund also organises programmes dealing with social issues. Several seminars have been conducted and the fund has been conducting a competition on social issues for six years in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Youth.

Next year the Marriage Fund will launch a competition along with UAE University to boost research on social issues. A weekly series was launched on television last month which addresses family and social issues. Next week it will become a regular live programme, televised on Dubai TV at 6pm every Saturday. The next episode will be on marriage expenditure.
