Ras Al Khaimah: A Ras Al Khaimah traffic policeman has come up with an inspiring initiative to promote the wearing of seatbelts: a smile instead of a fine.

Non-compliant motorists who were expecting a fine when encountering First Sergeant Samir Abdullah Al Hababi on Ras Al Khaimah’s roads got a smile and a polite warning isntead.

Now the video of Al Hababi, wearing a seatbelt as he stands in the road and urging motorists to comply with the law, has gone viral.

Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, honoured Abdullah for his innovative “Buckle-up and Smile” campaign.

It had a significant positive impact on all the drivers who encountered it, Maj. Gen. Al Nuaimi said

All motorists were happy about the initiative and willingly buckled up if they hadn’t already.

Al Hababi said the campaign is meant to urge offenders to fasten their seatbelts in a friendly and acceptable manner.
