Dubai: Passing through Shaikh Zayed Road should now be a breeze after a new road opened on Friday, June 8.

The new road is set to significantly ease driving around and through Business Bay and towards Al Quoz, Dubai Mall and the Dubai International Financial Centre as the new road network between Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road opened.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai on Friday opened the Phase II of the Parallel Roads Improvement Project at Business Bay, which also included road improvements between Al Meydan and Financial Streets.

The RTA assured that motorists will no longer have to face traffic snarls as the journey time between Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Street will be drastically cut from 12 to 2.5 minutes.

The RTA also released an awareness video on Thursday to explain how motorists can benefit from the new road, referred to as the Parallel Roads Improvement Project.

In the video, the RTA pointed out that the project, “aims to ease the pressure of traffic on Happiness Street.

"The project will cover improvements to the area, extending between Al Meydan Road and Financial Centre Road across the Business Bay District, comprising of three to four lanes in each direction.”

“The traffic flow will ease with the construction of a 240-metre flyover at the intersection of Happiness Street and Burj Khalifa Boulevard Road, along with a 535-metre underpass at the intersection of Happiness Street and Al Khaleej Road,” it added.

The road works is also set to increase the capacity to 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions of Meydan Street.
