Dubai: Reaching out to poor families in the remote villages of Egypt, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has distributed several autorickshaws to help people travel.

As part of its Year of Zayed initiative, a delegation of the RTA recently visited several remote Egyptian villages helping families with limited income with the means of travel. The delegation also arranged for tuition classes in Arabic and other subjects for poor students.

The beneficiaries, experiencing tough health and living conditions, were selected in coordination with the Islamic Charitable Society in Egypt.

The delegation also opened two classes for teaching Arabic language and other academic subjects. They also distributed school bags and stationery to about 400 students from the RTA Foundation. The delegation included Mohammad Obaid Al Mulla, board member and chairman of the Higher Committee of RTA Foundation; Dr Yousuf Al Ali, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation and vice-chairman of the Higher Committee of RTA Charity Foundation; and Roudha Al Mahrizi, deputy director of Marketing and Corporate Communication, senior manager of Corporate and Social Responsibility and member of Higher Committee of RTA Foundation.

“The visit of RTA’s delegation to remote villages in Al Dakahliya Governorate of Egypt stems from historical relations between the two countries and the government directives to give a helping hand to countries in need around the world, and to nurture humanitarian and charitable values via RTA Foundation,” said Al Mulla.

He added that the RTA delegation also visited the specialised medical centre established by the UAE to assess the future needs of the centre and children.

“Through its charity foundation, RTA is making every effort to help the largest possible number of needy people locally and abroad. The agenda of RTA strives to meet the needs of the local, regional and international communities at all levels,” he said.
