Dubai: Motorists in Sharjah will have to continue paying for parking during the upcoming Eid holiday.

The Department of Public Parking at Sharjah Municipality said that while it will provide free parking on Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha, certain areas will still be subjected to fees.

•  Eid Al Adha holiday for UAE public sector from August 19

An official at Sharjah Municipality told the Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm that it will fine motorists who fail to pay for parking in the following areas:

  1. Al Hosn Boulevard in the areas of Al Shuwahain and Al Sheyoukh
  2. Birds and Animals Market in Al Jubail area
  3. The Central Market, also known as Souq Al Markazi, in Al Majaz 1
  4. Buhairah Corniche in Al Majaz 1, 2 and 3

The public sector in Sharjah will benefit from a five-day holiday during Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.

Parking will also be free in all other areas from August 19-24. 

Sharjah government's Directorate of Human Resources took to Twitter earlier this week to announce the week-long holiday, 

Sharjah Municipality ended free parking on weekends and public holidays in these areas since March 2018, following a number of complaints that vehicles were parked for a long period of time.
