Now, a pop-up petrol pump at UAE malls

Dubai: Residents in the northern emirates who want to learn how to pump their own fuel can now do so at shopping centres.

On Thursday, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) launched a petrol kiosk at Sahara Centre in Sharjah and another at Al Manar Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, which will be available for the next two weeks.

The kiosks were previously set up at Marina Mall and Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi.

“The intent is to engage with the community, to listen to concerns, and to explain and answer any queries,” said an Adnoc spokesperson.

The kiosks’ schedule is also set to include government buildings across Abu Dhabi in the near future, as organisers assured that the pop-ups will be returning to the capital.

As of June 30, motorists have to pay Dh10 extra if they want a petrol-station attendant to fill their vehicles with gasoline at Adnoc petrol stations. However, the self-service option is free.

“The educational period began last March and included a trial run where customers were not charged the additional Dh10 to fuel at premium service stations,” explained Adnoc.

Residents can also take advantage of the temporary petrol pumps by registering for a Smart Tag on site. Previously, customers had to visit the company’s website to avail of the Smart Tag.

Once the customer registers their details at the kiosk and activate their Adnoc wallet account, they will then be issued with an appointment when they can visit one of the Smart Tag centres and complete the registration process.

Saeed Al Rashdi, Acting chief executive officer at Adnoc Distribution, said: “We’ve had a remarkable response to our Smart Tag installation program. Our customers have been keen to embrace smart tag technology, which makes refueling quicker and easier.

“Adnoc Distribution has invested in this technology to improve our customers’ experience and I’m confident that, over time, Smart Tags will also help to reduce congestion by speeding up the refueling process,” he said.

More than 141,000 Smart Tags have been fitted to vehicles across the country.
