Dubai:  Huge bottlenecks around the city disrupted early morning commute of UAE residents on Sunday as they got back to work on the first day of the week.

Some of these congestions were due to road closures that have been carried out to pave way for maintenance or construction work, and among those affected were motorists on the Airport Road.

As of 9am, traffic gluts were reported in major thoroughfares including Shaikh Zayed Road, Ras Al Khor Road and Airport tunnel, as well as in areas in and around Al Nahda, Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Wafi Mall, Jafiliya and Trade Centre Roundabout.

Motorists driving to and from the Dubai International Airport have been advised to take alternate routes as well, to avoid long tailbacks.

The Dubai Police advised that a bottleneck had disrupted traffic flow at the Airport tunnel, from Al Rabat towards Dubai Festival City, due to some bridge maintenance work.
