Dubai: Those interested in having a ringside view of Dubai’s New Year’s Eve spectacle while staying away from the rush at Downtown Dubai will have an option of taking a boat ride along the Dubai Canal as well as other landmarks of the city.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday announced that it will offer special rides on Dubai Ferry, abras as well as water buses from Dubai Creek, canal, Dubai Marina and Al Ghubaiba.

The ferries will set off at 9pm on December 31 from Marina Mall station, Ghubaiba station, Dubai Festival City station in Dubai Creek and Shaikh Zayed Road station at the Dubai Water Canal.

The ferry rides will cost Dh300 for silver class and Dh450 for gold, while children aged between two and 10 years go for Dh150 and Dh225 respectively. Children under the age of two go free.

Starting at 10.30pm, the abras will offer rides from Dubai Festival City, Jaddaf Station and Ghubaiba Station at a fare of Dh125 per person, while children under the age of two go free.

The Water Bus service will also start at 10.30pm from the Terrace and Promenade station and Marina Mall station. The fare for the water bus service is also Dh125 per person, while children under two years go for free.

All three rides will end at 1.30am after the midnight revelries.

“The RTA is stepping up efforts to offer a new marine transit experience availing riders a superb opportunity to live the thrilling moments of festivities at Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, the Atlantis and Dubai Water Canal, through sea cruises aboard marine transit modes. The experience is bound to leave fond memories for residents, visitors and tourists,” said Mansour Rahma Al Falasi, Director of Marine Transport at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
