Ajman: As many as 20 new hi-tech police motorcycles were deployed on Ajman roads on Thursday to control traffic and improve road safety.

These patrols, which can perform security and field-monitoring duties, will enhance police presence on the emirate’s roads.

The new patrol service has been introduced under a development and innovation project that involves all Ajman police departments.

Motorcycle patrolling aims at enhancing speedy response and to ensure security and stability in the community.

Major-General Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said the new motorcycle patrols would allow officers to deal with minor incidents more efficiently since they allow for quick access to the scene without causing any disruption to traffic.

He said that the Ministry of Interior provided Ajman Police with these 20 new motorcycles.

Ajman Police are keen on providing the best field practices and services to enhance security, safety and peace in the emirate, he said.

Officers on motorcycles can reach accident and crime scenes faster than their colleagues in cars who could get stuck in traffic. They will provide the same service and assistance car patrols offer.

The patrol officers are trained and equipped to offer first aid and rescue services. The motorcycles are equipped with fire extinguishers, state-of-the-art location tracking and communication systems and anti-lock brake system (ABS) which prevents the wheels of a powered two-wheeler from locking during braking.
