Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police on Wednesday warned curious drivers against obstructing traffic and stopping near accident sites, with 71 drivers fined in the first six months of this year.

The police also called on drivers to not take pictures or video recordings of accidents to publish on social media without permission which, they said, could attract a heavy fine and prosecution under Articles 197 and 198.

The police said motorists caught obstructing traffic after an accident would be fined Dh1,000, and added that drivers and pedestrians who gather around accident sites slow down the work of ambulance personnel and emergency services.

Addressing drivers who stop to provide assistance to those wounded in accidents, the Abu Dhabi Police instructed them to not move an injured person if they aren’t familiar with providing first aid as they could do more harm than good to the victim.
