Dubai: Dubai Metro continues to rise in popularity with 49.91 million people using it in the first three months of this year, compared to 44.37 million during the same period last year, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed on Monday.

The Dubai Tram also saw a significant jump in ridership during the first quarter, with 1.33 million commuters using it compared to a ridership of 943,982 last year.

“This rise in the ridership of both the metro and tram during the first three months of this year is indicative of the appeal of these modes. The metro and tram are shaping into prime mobility means within the emirate thanks to the smooth, enjoyable and safe transit experience offered to all,” said Abdul Mohsin Ebrahim Younus, CEO of Rail Agency at RTA.

With 31.83 million users, the Red Line took a major chunk of the ridership, while the Green Line saw a ridership of 18.07 million.

Al Riqqa station topped stations of the Red Line, recording 2.06 million riders, followed by Union Station, which served 1.97 million riders, slightly ahead of Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station that was also used by around 1.97 million commuters.

On the Green Line, Al Fahidi station topped the ridership, recording 2.05 million riders, followed by Baniyas station, which was used by 1.64 million commuters, and the Stadium station came in third with 1.46 million commuters,

For Dubai Tram, the Dubai Marina Station was the busiest serving 425,071 people, followed by JBR Station 1, which was used by 163,056 riders, and JBR 2 Station that served 152,987 riders.
