Sharjah: Visitors have been given the opportunity to purchase award winning books at the Sharjah Book Fair, in contrast to other years when they were only being showcased.

"We organise exhibits on behalf of trade shows around the world and provide visitors with a sample of the best of the best. But this year, we found a local book distributor and collaborated together so that the [award winning] books can be bought," said Jon Malinowski, President, Combined Book Exhibit.

The books have been selected by organisers from the UK and US for the Sharjah International Book Fair, which runs until tomorrow.

"What is popular in London or the US is also popular here, since people always want to read books that have been awarded," said Malinowski.

Sold out: Memoirs of a nation

The latest publication by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, proved to be so successful that all 5,000 copies were sold out by last Tuesday.

The historical book, titled Hadeeth Al Thakera (Talk of the Memory) was sold in Hall 4 at Al Qasimi publishing stand for Dh50.
