Dubai: Applications for Mohammad Bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Distinguishment will be received till August 10.

The Mohammad Bin Rashid Academy of Scientists has started receiving applications for the award from May 7.

The initiative, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recognises scientists who have excelled and left their mark in their respective disciplines in the UAE and abroad.

Submitted entries are set to be evaluated by a judging panel comprising leading international scientists and experts, who will interview candidates and reveal the winners in December 2018 at the annual meeting of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Academy of Scientists.

Sara Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, said: “This initiative launched by Shaikh Mohammad embodies the UAE’s ambitions to transform into an international hub for sciences, and inspires scientists to excel in various scientific disciplines, to make unprecedented breakthroughs and support the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan.”

Candidates can either submit their application to the committee personally or be nominated by someone else. To be considered, candidates need to have made an impact on their respective fields of specialisation; they must be an active member of the local scientific community; and be committed to supporting young scientists and imparting knowledge. Furthermore, their research needs to be beneficial to and in line with the priorities and vision of the UAE.

Ahmad Abdullah Humaid Bel Houl Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills, Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, said: “The generous initiatives of Shaikh Mohammad will remain the main engine driving the development of the scientific ecosystem, and the catalyst for scientific excellence across all disciplines.”
