Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met on Monday in Abu Dhabi with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi, and discussed ways to promote fraternal relations and a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, were present.

During the meeting, Shaikh Mohammad welcomed the Egyptian President’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, stressing the keenness of the two countries leaderships to continue their consultation and coordination for the interests of the two countries and the brotherly peoples.

Shaikh Mohammad and Al Sissi reviewed issues related to regional interventions that destabilise the region, as well as combating extremism, violence and terrorism, and draining its funding sources.

Shaikh Mohammad emphasised the deep ties between the UAE and Egypt, which, he said, are based on strong bases of understanding and consensus on regional and international issues. He pointed out that UAE-Egyptian relations are an outstanding model for fraternal relations based on the principles of brotherhood, trust and mutual respect.

Earlier, Shaikh Mohammad received Al Sissi upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was attended by Suhail Mohammad Faraj Al Mazroui, Minister of Energy, Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Wael Al Sayid Mohammad Jad, Egyptian Ambassador to the UAE, and other senior Emirati and Egyptian officials.

“The Emirati-Egyptian coordination has proved its toughness over the past years in facing various challenges in the region, foremost of which is the challenge of terrorism, which has become a serious global threat that cannot be tolerated, along with its supporters, because it has spread in a manner that cannot be ignored. This calls for a serious Arab, regional and international stand to face this threat, that targets everyone without exception,” Shaikh Mohammad added.

He continued, “The UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stands firmly with Egypt in its war against terrorism, which will not be able to stop or disrupt its vision of achieving development and progress, and the well-being of its people.”

Al Sissi stressed Egypt’s keenness to continue developing bilateral relations and coordination between the two countries at all levels on various regional and international issues. He stressed that the security of the Gulf States is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.

Shaikh Mohammad and Al Sissi discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, the latest developments in the Middle East region and the efforts being exerted to reach political settlements. The two sides stressed the need to preserve the unity and sovereignty of countries that are experiencing crises, to preserve the capabilities of their peoples, and to enable their national institutions to fulfil their responsibilities in maintaining security and combating terrorism.

The two sides also discussed developments related to combating terrorism and extremism, emphasising the importance of all Arab countries concerting their efforts along with the international community in tackling this scourge at all levels, especially with regard to eliminating the financing of terrorist groups and blocking their supply of weapons and followers.

They also underlined the need to face the matter of interventions in Arab countries’ affairs, and to intensify efforts to achieve the interests of the Arab peoples.

Later, Shaikh Mohammad received Al Sissi at his Majlis in Al Bahr Palace. They spoke about the historic relations between the UAE and Egypt. A number of Emiratis attending Majlis expressed the love of the Emirati people for Egypt, and said that they are proud of the brotherly UAE-Egypt relations. They reaffirmed the UAE’s stand by Egypt against conspirators, traitors and terrorists, following in the footsteps of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan to always stand by Egypt.
