Sharjah: A new-born girl was found abandoned near a mosque in Al Qasimiyah area in Sharjah, an official at Sharjah police told Gulf News on Saturday.

The incident happened on Thursday at around 4am.

The baby was left near mosque and she was spotted by passers by who reported the incident to the police.

A team from Al Gharb police station and members of the Criminal Investigation Division rushed to the scene.

A probe to track down the baby’s parents was under way, police said.

Footage from nearby premises CCTV system was checked to help authorities identify the mother.

The footage showed a person leaving the baby and quickly rushing to a car.

The baby was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital.

According to hospital officials, the baby is in good health and she will be handed over to a child protection committee in Sharjah after few days.
