Dubai: A much awaited book comprising success stories of 100 prominent Pakistanis in the UAE was launched on Thursday.

"This book gives insight into the lives of the Pakistanis who have been living in the UAE for years and contributed to the development of the country," said Khursheed Ahmad Junejo, Ambassador of Pakistan, in his speech after launching the book titled 100 Prominent Pakistanis in the UAE. He said the book reveals great success stories of individuals who played great roles in different fields of lives here.

The book written in Urdu has been co-authored by Tahir Muneer Tahir and Shaikh Mohammad Pervez, freelance Pakistani journalists based in Dubai. It represents Pakistanis who belongs to different areas of Pakistan and are working in different fields here.

Renowned Pakistani columnists and writer Attaul Haq Qasimi specially flew from Pakistan to preside over the ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony was the presence of most of the people who have been featured in the book.

"The book is an eye-opener for the youth as they can learn the path to succeed in the UAE from the people mentioned in the book," said Amjad Ali Sher, Consul General of Pakistan. He said that it was a tough job to select 100 Pakistani out of more than one million living in the UAE.

The book was critically acclaimed by an Abu Dhabi based personality Zaheer Badar and others such as Amjad Iqbal Amjad, Talib Hussain, Mohammad Muneer Anwar and Sabiha Saba.

Badar said the book introduces Pakistanis to Pakistanis. "It is not a piece of literature but the language used in the book is quite literary and keeps a reader involved in the interesting descriptions of individuals," he said. He also appealed to the Pakistani ambassador to set up an Urdu Academy to promote literary activities in the UAE.

Tahir Muneer Tahir, co-author of the book said that one of the main objectives of writing the book is to identify prominent Pakistanis to pay them tribute while the second objective is to educate the youth on how to succeed while living abroad.

Meanwhile, Attaul Haq Qasimi was also given an award of Pakistani Rs 500,000 (Dh 23,000) for his meritorious services in the field of literature and completing 50 years as a leading columnist in Pakistan.

The award presented to him by Chaudhry Noorul Hassan Tanveer, a prominent businessman in Dubai.
