Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Banna is the new chairman of Dubai Quality Group (DQG). He takes over Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, who stepped down at the end of his two-year term.

Yusef Al Bastaki was elected as vice-chairman at the group's annual general meeting on Tuesday night.

Both Al Banna and Al Basktaki were elected unopposed. Three new members were elected to the board - Paul Campbell, Duaa Essam Dablan and Abdul Qadir Ali.

The meeting saw the presentation of the annual report and financial results for 2002. Certificates of appreciation were given to various organisations and individuals in recognition of their contributions and support to the group.

"As the leading organisation committed to improving business excellence, DQG will continue to assist organisations and professionals in all sectors to develop improved quality standards and develop long-term strategies for the consistent delivery of high performance," said Al Banna.

"This will be done through the efforts of our members and also through interaction with a number of local and international organisations and institutions.

"With the help of the new board, the DQG will shortly launch its programme of activities and introduce new ideas and proposals for the coming year, especially the Business-woman's Award," added Al Banna.

The new board members will assume responsibilities at their first meeting on December 19.

The DQG, which has a membership of over 1,500 individuals representing 300 public and private sector organisations, is committed to the development of a well-educated and skilled workforce and improving business performance.

It was set up in 1994 as a non-profit business organisation by the Dubai Department of Economic Development under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as its honorary chairman.
