A 34-year-old Pakistani driver was rescued after the car he was driving was hit by another vehicle on Al Khalidya bridge and fell into Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Police temporarily closed Al Khalidya bridge to traffic after the accident.

The car was hit from behind by another vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Arab national, who was driving at a high speed, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

The Pakistani driver managed to get out of the car before the vehicle started to sink.

Police divers went underwater and retrieved documents from the car and later police crane lifted the vehicle.

Police said the Pakistani driver was doing well and he was treated at Al Kuwaiti hospital.

Sharjah Police urged motorists to pay attention to the road while driving and abide by speed limit on the roads.
