Abu Dhabi: Six people were injured, including an elderly person, after a bus carrying 14 workers overturned in the capital, Abu Dhabi Police said on Monday.

Police said the workers' injuries ranged from moderate to major. They were taken to Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi on an air ambulance.

Police said the rear tyre of the bus burst, causing it to overturn at the Icad camp bridge in the Abu Dhabi direction.

Major Abdullah Al Qubaisi, head of traffic control at the department of traffic in the external areas, said that preliminary investigation showed that the faulty tyre caused the accident, and the driver was not sure of the safety and validity of the vehicle's tyres.

Brigadier Ahmad Abdullah Al Shehhi, deputy director of the traffic and patrols department, called on drivers to check the tyres of their vehicles for damages or cracks in order to avoid traffic accidents.
