Dubai: Dubai police arrested a motorist who hit a pedestrian with his vehicle and fled the scene leaving behind a clue to his identity.

Police later identified the motorist via the car’s logo which was found near the scene.

The pedestrian was crossing the road from a non-designated area in Al Ghusais when the Asian driver ran over him and fled the scene.

After that some other cars collided with each other in an attempt to avoid hitting the injured pedestrian.

Brigadier Yousuf Al Adidi, director of Al Ghusais police station, said they were alerted about a traffic accident involving five vehicles He said when the police patrol reached the scene of the accident there was only four vehicles as the motorist who hit the pedestrian, had fled the scene. Brigadier Al Adidi said the injured pedestrian was rushed to the hospital.

Brigadier Al Adidi said there was no one at the scene who could provide any clue about the car which was involved in the hit-and-run incident. However, police found a car’s logo belonging to the runaway motorist near the accident scene.

Police contacted the car’s dealer to see if they could provide them with any information about the vehicle involved in the accident.

“We discovered that the logo belonged to a car model between 2011 to 2015. After intensive search and investigation we identified the car and its owner and arrested him,” Brigadier Al Adidi added.

The Asian motorist told police that he wasn’t paying attention to the road and that the pedestrian surprised him when he crossed the road from a non-designated area. The motorist said he fled the scene of the accident as he was frightened.

The motorist was referred to Dubai public prosecution for further investigation.
