Dubai: A bus ferrying construction workers met with an accident in the Dubai Investments Park (DIP) 2 area late Thursday, causing minor to serious injuries to 22. 

The accident occurred at the Gulf News Roundabout in Dubai Investment Park. 

“Twenty-two people were injured in the accident that was reported to the operations room at 6pm,” Khalifa Bin Darri, executive director of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) told Gulf News. “Five of them sustained serious injuries.” 

The workers, all belonging to the Indian subcontinent, were staffers at a Sharjahbased construction company.

Though the exact cause of the accident is not known, some paramedics said that the bus could have collided with the road divider.

One worker with serious injuries was transferred to Rashid Hospital, while the rest were admitted to private hospitals including NMC Hospital Jebel Ali, Saudi-German Hospital, and Al Zahra Hospital.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and eight others injured in three traffic accidents in the last two days in Dubai, police said.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the Traffic Department, said a motorist died and another suffered serious injuries after two vehicles collided in the Al Aweer area. The second accident involving six vehicles occurred on Cairo Road in which five persons suffered minor injuries.
