Dubai: The Ministry of Education as part of their ‘Innovation Ambassadors’ initiative sent more than 300 students to six elite universities in the world to study at their state-of-the-art science and research centres.
During their trips abroad, the students received hands-on expertise and knowledge in various scientific fields related to innovation.
The Ministry launched this unique initiative for students to infuse the notion of innovation and creativity in their minds.
During their in the universities the students participated in workshops and field visits that showed to them that how the developed countries have been using innovation in daily lives.
The top-performing Emirati students attended specially designed programmes at Via University College in Denmark, Trinity College in Ireland, National University of Singapore, Imperial College in the United Kingdom, Syracuse University in the United States and Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies in the United States.
“This programme was in line with the UAE National Innovation and Fourth Industrial Revolution Strategies as it empowers our youth with the skills that contribute to advancing the national economy and positioning the UAE as one of the most innovative countries in the world,” said Dr Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, assistant undersecretary at activities sector at the Ministry of Education.
Youth empowerment
She explained the Ministry is keen on empowering youth as they play a vital role in shaping the future of our country. “Through this programme they witnessed how reputable institutions are applying innovative solutions and technologies to industries,” she said.
At Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies, an innovative centre for pre-collegiate education, the students learnt about bioscience, logic and problem solving, legal studies and social innovation. They were also part of lectures on artificial intelligence (AI) and game design, communication science and neuroscience.
Stanford is an elite private research university that is ranked among the world’s top 10 universities.
The Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies during the National Science, Technology and Innovation (NSTI) Festival, which was held in February last year. The MoU aimed to provide opportunities for academically talented students from the UAE to experience the academic and social aspects of the American college life and culture at Stanford University.
