Ras Al Khaimah: Police in the emirate have arrested a motorist involved in a hit-and-run accident that left an Emirati man seriously injured, said Colonel Ahmad Sum Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of Ras Al Khaimah Police.

The Emirati man was injured when a car ran over him while he was riding his motorbike, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man sustained serious injuries and fractures in his body and bruises to his face.

Police and paramedics arrived at the accident scene after the police operations room got a call on Monday around 4pm.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the driver who caused the accident drove away. The police searched the area for the missing motorist.

They were able to identify the vehicle from data gathered at the accident scene and arrested the suspect three hours after the incident.

Col Al Naqbi said their investigations revealed that the suspect was driving his car at high speed. He confessed to running over the man and fleeing the scene, saying that he was surprised by the man suddenly appearing in front of him and that he tried to avoid hitting him but couldn’t.

The case has been referred to public prosecution for legal procedures.
