Ajman: Two brothers who allegedly stole a number of vehicles across the country have been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
The suspects carried out a series of car thefts in various corners of the UAE and later chopped the car parts off for sale in the black market.
Major Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of the Ajman Criminal and Investigation Department, said the suspects stole five vehicles from Ajman that were parked outside houses in dimly-lit areas in the emirate, cut them up, and then sold them as spare parts.
The Arab suspects were caught after police launched an investigation following complaints from a man who reported that his car, which belonged to the company he works for, was stolen.
He told police that he parked the company car at night in front of his house and locked it properly.
Police formed a team to track down the suspect and arrested them.
Police identified one of the suspects identified as A.A.A. and he led the police to his partner, who was his brother, M.A.A.
The suspects confessed, police said, that they had stolen five vehicles from Ajman in addition to other cars from different emirates.
The modus operandi was the same, the brothers said, as they would break open the vehicles and move them to another place to avoid detection.
They told police that they cut the car and sold them as spare parts.
The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Maj Al Nuaimi urged motorists not to leave their vehicles in poorly-lit places and sandy areas. The police also urged the public to alert them about any suspicious activities.
