Dubai: A manager has been jailed for three months for groping a life coach as she was walking with her friend on a pavement.

The 44-year-old Filipina life coach came out of a typing centre accompanied by her friend in Al Karama in March when a 45-year-old Indian manager came in front of them.

He took advantage of the fact that the life coach was immersed in a conversation with her friend when he took her by surprise and groped her.

The woman instantly yelled at the defendant and scolded him for his indecent behaviour.

Police came to the scene shortly after the life coach reported the matter and the Indian was arrested.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of groping the victim although he pleaded not guilty.

According to the primary judgement, the victim’s civil lawsuit was referred to the Dubai Civil Court.

The accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.

The Filipina lodged a civil lawsuit claiming Dh21,000 in temporary compensation for her emotional and moral damages.

The victim said the incident happened around 1.40pm outside a typing centre.

“My friend and I had just walked out of the centre and while walking, the accused came from the front and groped me. He took me by surprise … I got angry and scolded him for his attitude,” she testified.

A policeman testified that the Filipina woman instantly reported the matter to the police.

The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
