Dubai: A visitor created a Snapchat account where he profiled himself as a prostitute and uploaded his nude images, heard a court on Tuesday.

A lieutenant at Dubai Police’s cybercrime section was on a cyber-patrol mission when he came across a private profile of a man, who was promoting prostitution and sex services on Snapchat in June.

Naming the account kisses967, the profile owner had posted still and video images of pornographic nature, according to records, and promoted prostitution.

Police identified the Snapchat account owner as a 22-year-old Moroccan visitor and issued an arrest warrant against him.

Records showed the 22-year-old visitor walked into the police station on his own and surrendered himself.

When confronted by the findings, the man admitted that he had set up the Snapchat account, posted nude images and promoted prostitution with men.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of abusing the social media by creating an account that he used to post pornographic images and promote prostitution. He was also accused of having sex with men for money.

The suspect pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

“Yes sir I did that … but I worked in prostitution before June,” he told presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.

The cybercrime police lieutenant told prosecutors that he discovered the Snapchat account that promoted prostitution while carrying out a routine cyber-patrol.

“After identifying the culprit, we circulated an arrest warrant. He surrendered himself the next morning at 10am. During questioning, he claimed that he profiled himself on Snapchat as a prostitute for men … he also admitted that he uploaded images of his private parts. He further admitted that when he became jobless, he decided to earn his living through having paid sex with men for Dh1,000 to Dh1,500 per client. He also said that he lured several clients before he got exposed and had paid sex with those clients,” he claimed to prosecutors.

Police confiscated the suspect’s Samsung phone, on which a number of indecent photos and videos were found when forensic experts examined it.

A ruling will be heard on August 12.
