Dubai: A man accused of threatening to kill a married woman and her husband will be tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court.
The 31-year-old Indian defendant is accused of sending death threats via email to the 25-year-old Emirati woman, who he worked with.
According to charges, the defendant sent the woman several WhatsApp messages in January 2016, telling her that he liked her and wanted to marry her.
The woman reported the matter to management, following which the defendant was sacked.
Infuriated, he then started sending threatening emails, prompting the Emirati woman to report the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
Prosecutors referred the suspect to the Dubai Court of First Instance for threatening in writing to kill the woman.
However, the presiding judge referred the case to the Dubai Misdemeanours Court, citing jurisdictional purposes.
The suspect, however, failed to show up before the Court of First Instance to enter a plea.
The woman told prosecutors that the suspect had constantly stalked her when they were colleagues at work.
“He used to send me disturbing messages on WhatsApp and said that he liked me and had the desire to marry me. The management fired him shortly after I reported his actions. He kept on stalking me via email and the last email I received from him was in January 2016,” she testified to prosecutors.
A hearing will be held before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court soon.
