Abu Dhabi:  A weekend pleasure trip for a three-member Indian family, including a five-month-old baby, ended in their tragic deaths in Dibba on Friday evening, a cousin of the deceased told Gulf News on Saturday.

Chozhiyattil Suresh, 30, his wife Dilna, 22, and their baby Thanmaya were killed in a road crash while driving from Ras Al Khaimah to Fujairah, Suresh's cousin Chozhiyattil Ranjan said. The family hailed from Kannur district in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

"They were in a jubilant mood as they planned to go back home [to India] next week [by September end] for a short break to attend a family function," he said.

"And they wanted to go sightseeing and meet a relative in Fujairah during the weekend before going home," he said.

They were travelling with two friends in a pick-up, which collided with a car around 6pm on the Dibba-Fujairah road, Ranjan said.

One of the friends, who is also from Kerala, was seriously injured, and the other sustained minor injuries, Ranjan said.

"I came to know that Suresh was driving the pick-up," he said.

Suresh was working as an aluminium fabricator with a private company in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dilna and the baby Thanmaya joined Suresh about two months ago and the extended family had enjoyed spending time with the baby, Ranjan said.

"He was really celebrating the presence of his first baby," Ranjan said about his cousin. Suresh had cooked a traditional feast at his home during Onam [a Keralite festival last month] for around 30 guests, the cousin said.

"He [Suresh] said it was his daughter's first Onam and he wanted a grand celebration," Ranjan said.

"We never imagined that such a jubilant mood of a family would end up soon like this."
