AUS holds its first Alumni Business Forum

Sharjah: Industry leaders participated in discussions around various business issues as part of the first American University of Sharjah's first Alumni Business Forum and Career Fair held recently. The event attracted senior government officials, industry representatives, AUS alumni, faculty and students.

Discussions ranged from the UAE as the hub of energy initiatives, business ethics amid current economic challenges and developing indigenous leadership in the UAE.

UOWD launches engineering programmes

Dubai The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) announced the introduction of its new Bachelor of Engineering degree programme at the Spring Graduation Ceremony last week. Degrees were conferred on 237 undergraduate and postgraduate students. "We have already produced nearly 4,500 graduates... this number increases still further, and will exceed 5,000 by the end of 2010," said UOWD president Professor Rob Whelan.

Training course to support green design concept

Dubai The British University in Dubai (BUiD) and Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC) have launched a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) training course to support the demand for certified professionals in sustainable design. The LEED green building certification programme, a US Green Building Council accreditation registration, encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through rating systems.

Students create fashion pieces inspired by Picasso

Dubai: French Fashion University Esmod Dubai recently hosted French fashion designer Alain Germain, who assisted students in a unique project that involves the creation of dresses inspired by illustrious 20th century artists. Select paintings of Picasso and other famous painters were used by students as themes to create garments, which depicted the cultural diversity of the 47 different nationalities at the university.
