Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police is all set to celebrate its golden jubilee on the fifth of December.

A mass wedding ceremony of 50 nationals, symposiums and lectures, exhibitions showing the achievements of Abu Dhabi Police, a book documenting history of the police force and collection of half a million signatures on a huge canvas would all be part of the celebrations, announced officials on Tuesday.

The occasion would be used to showcase the potential of the police force, such as its security capabilities, technological applications, privileges given to its personnel and training. And many social activities, community programmes, sports activities will be part of the golden jubilee celebrations.

Major General Saeed Obaid Al Mazroui, Deputy Commander of the Abu Dhabi Police, said the force has made tremendous progress over the years and has contributed greatly to the safe and secure environment enjoyed in the country today.

Strong foundation

Going back in history, he spoke of how the police was established in 1957 with few officials to the current position where the department just won three awards for outstanding performance from the government. "The Abu Dhabi Police has strong foundations," he said thanking the visionary leaders for the success of the department.

Organised under the directives of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, celebrations will be held under the slogan 'Fifty years of building leadership and distinction'.

Al Mazroui lauded the initiatives taken by the Minister of Interior in helping the police find a unique balance between power and efficiency.

He said the police have been able to win the hearts of the public by developing a relation of trust. "Introduction of community policing had a major role in this."

Major General Khalil Badran, the Director of General Administration of financial services and head of the committee organising the celebrations, said several organisations would be participating in the celebrations. "To strengthen the bridges of communication between the police and all members of society, we already have started visits to various organisations, such as schools, universities, hospitals, community clubs etc."
