Manama: The Court of Appeals in the western Saudi city of Jeddah has upheld a jail sentence against four men and three women who were convicted for debauchery and engaging in immoral acts, including soliciting, to make money.

The defendants, all Asians, will be deported after serving their prison terms, the court said.

The prosecutor said the defendants were also guilty of preparing a house to harbour domestic helpers who absconded from the homes of their employers and to use them in sex trade.

The prosecutor also called for confiscating their mobiles and all the cash generated by their illicit activities, Saudi daily Okaz reported Tuesday.

The lower court had sentenced the gang leader to five years in jail and to 500 lashes. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 30,000 Saudi Riyals and to hand over his mobile and the 9,000 Saudi Riyals found in his possession.

The second defendant was sentenced to three years in jail, 300 lashes and a 20,000 Saudi Riyals fine.

Each of the three women was sentenced to two years in prison and to 200 lashes.

The nationalities of the defendants were not given.
