Manama: Two Saudi men saddled up for more than 12,000 kilometres, riding their motorcycles from Saudi Arabia to South Africa.
Awadh Bakheet Al Qahtani and Abdul Bari Al Abdullah Assirri started their adventure across the African continent from Abha in southern Saudi Arabia, then rode to the Red Sea port of Jeddah, after which they crossed Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and reached Cape Town in South Africa.
The two men were received in the South African capital Pretoria by the Saudi ambassador Gharam Bin Saeed Al Malhan where he praised their spirit of adventure and commitment to achieving their goals, Saudi news site Sabq reported.
Awadh and Abdul Bari said that their aim was to promote travel on motorbikes and to show the face of a new, ambitious Saudi Arabia, with a prosperous economy.
They are the first to have made the trip from Saudi Arabia to South Africa.
In February, they were received in Nairobi by the Saudi ambassador to Kenya Mohammad Abdul Ghani Al Khayyat who hailed their courage and determination.
The two men did not say whether they intended to ride back to Saudi Arabia or to ship their motorcycles and fly home.
