Manama: A Saudi woman took social media by storm after she posted pictures in a full black abaya and face veil, claiming she wanted to enter the world of fashion.

The woman, calling herself ‘Jood Model’ in Arabic on Twitter, said she was fully committed to her “modest clothing” as she posted pictures posing in a bedroom, imitating fashion models.

“I told you that I will not continue my studies so that I can be a model; however, my religion is above everything else,” she posted.

While a few users welcomed her modelling ambitions, most comments were highly critical of her.

For some, she was mocking religion by acting in “a rather peculiar way”.

Others attacked her for seeking “publicity that will not make her character better or ensure her financial gains”.

Some commenters advised her to seek another hobby as her attire did not reflect any form of fashion.

A few users praised Jood for her sense of humour. “I didn’t know I needed this so badly! You made my day,” Sabaa posted.

In her replies to some of the comments, Jood defended her choice and decision and insisted she was not denigrating religion or engaging in any comic act to seek attention or publicity.

“I am sure that if I had posted scandalous pictures, I would have had several likes and mentions,” she said.
