Manama: A sheep is believed to have become the most expensive animal trade of the year in Saudi Arabia after selling for 1 million riyals.

A Kuwaiti who worked in the sheep trade between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia sold the special animal to a Saudi in the Hafr area in the northern part of the kingdom, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Tuesday.

Witnesses said that the sheep with special physical attributes was sold at an auction where farmers sought to outbid one another to buy it for breeding in the hope that they would more than recoup the purchase price.

“The bidding started at 100,000 riyals, but after half an hour, it reached one million riyals,” witnesses said. “The Saudi man who bought it paid for it in cash,” they added.
