Manama: Qatar Shell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development to launch the “Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013”, a programme designed to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and develop business knowledge among young people.

The programme, open to students from all universities in Qatar as well as high schools in Al Khor and Al Shamal under a different programme, consists of two parts.

The Ethical Business Challenge tests the students’ ability to balance the economic, environmental and social performance of their company while the Business Simulation is designed to familiarise students with general business concepts from inception through to trading, finance, sales, marketing and production.

Qatar Shell is the founding sponsor of Mosaic in Qatar, an initiative of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales for Muslim youth around the world, that developed The Enterprise Challenge.

“We are proud to partner with Bedaya to bring this innovative programme to universities across Qatar and to schools in Al Khor and Al Shamal,” Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell, said. “The ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013’ will help develop the students’ understanding of business and enterprise, while equipping them with the necessary skills to grow not only as business leaders, but as successful and confident individuals. We hope that this initiative will help contribute to the human development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, through investing in Qatari talent and developing Qatari enterprise,” he said in remarks emailed to Gulf News.

The programme is delivered through workshops and a sequence of computer challenges that aim to equip participants with practical business skills to develop their business acumen, team work and strategic thinking.

The “Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013” kicks off in September and concludes with the Business Simulation Finals during the Global Entrepreneurship Week on November 17-21 where the top student teams from high schools and universities will compete and the winners of the Enterprise Challenge Qatar 2013 will be announced.
