Muscat: Six workers were killed in a head-on collision on Thursday morning near Mukhaizna oil fields about 900-km south of Muscat.

"There were 29 workers coming from Marmul to Muscat and most were engaged with oil field related work," P.M. Jabir, Indian Social Club's Social Welfare Secretary told Gulf News on Thursday.

He said that due to poor visibility the Happy Transport Service bus collided head-on with a trailer at around seven in the morning.

He said that all the six bodies were kept at the Haima Hospital. "There's no morgue at Haima so efforts are on at the moment to bring the bodies to Muscat to be kept at the Royal Oman Police morgue," he added.

The driver of the Happy Line Transport Service and one of his assistants were among the six dead. The Pakistani driver of the trailer also died on the spot.

The dead have been identified as Bahadur Salwa employed with the Arabian Industries, Boomi Shetty Mallayyah employed with Tawoos LLC, Regi Reddi (Indian), Usman (Indian) Happy line employee and the Indian driver of the bus Yogayya. The Pakistani driver of trailer is identified only by his first name Ghulam.

Four - Ijaz (Pakistani), Mohammed (nationality unkown), Humaid (Omani) and Santhosh Kumar (India)are critically injured and admitted to the ICU at Nizwa Hospital. Five others with slightly lesser injuries are in Haima Hospital , they are Rama Raju, Sreenivasa Rao, Harris Thottummal (all Indians), Shamseer Khan (Pakistani) and Mulla Mujahar (nationality unkown).

A Royal Oman Police (ROP) spokesperson confirmed the fatal accident.
