Muscat: The Royal Oman Police have issued a warning over the likelihood of a thunderstorm and heavy rains in parts of the country.

The Oman Meteorological Department has forecast a thunderstorm with winds and hail over Musandam, north Batinah and Buraimi in the next 24 hours.

“The unstable weather in the north-west of the Arabian Peninsula could cause heavy rains in parts of Oman [so] we would advise residents and citizens to be cautious, especially when they try to cross wadis,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.

“Motorists and people must watch the water level in case of rains in low lying areas as well as wadis cutting across roads could be dangerous,” he added.

The police also cautioned fishermen and people going on pleasure cruises.

The ROP spokesman asked residents in Oman to listen to radio broadcasts and television announcements about the weather conditions.
