Muscat: An Omani man was killed after his car collided with a bus in Al Khoudh area of Seeb province on Saturday night. A source from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) told Gulf News the victim died on impact.

The police have yet to release any information about the victim.

Camera footage showed that the collision occurred when Omani man tried to overtake the car in front of him. The footage also showed the bus swerved in order to avoid hitting his car, but was unable to do so.

Three people were killed last month in road accidents at the same spot where the collision took place.

Meanwhile, there had been a big decrease in number of road accidents in Oman last year. Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that 692 people were killed in road accidents in 2016, compared to 975 in 2015. Speeding and wrong overtaking have been cited as the main causes of road accidents in the country.
