Muscat: A criminal court judge has sentenced an alleged alcoholic to a year in prison for creating a disturbance at a public place while drunk.

According to a report in Arabic daily Azamn, the accused had entered Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Ruwi and was reported to police by the imam for being intoxicated.

The police arrested the accused. The Public Prosecution produced him in the court where the court was informed that the same citizen was convicted for a similar offence in 2005 and was known in the area for his loud and disturbing behaviour after consuming alcohol.
