Muscat: Oman’s National Committee for Civil Defence said that it ended the high alert along with other Omani authorities as cyclone Chapala rerouted towards Yemen.

The National Centre for the Early Warnings ruled out that the Chapala Cyclone will make a landfall on the southern coasts of Oman or has direct influence on Dhofar coasts.

The centre said that the Chapala swerved off to the west towards the Yemeni coast.

Medium to heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected in Dhofar and Wusta governorates in the coming day due to the indirect influence of the cyclone.

Light to medium rain lashed Dhofar and Wusta areas like Mahoot, Sheem, Sadah and Salalah province.

Meanwhile, more than 5,000 people were put in more than 21 shelter centres in Dhofar, in case of any flooding in the low areas where they stay.

Omanis on social media platforms called on the authorities to provide food supplies, blankets and rescue operations for the residents of Socotra island.

They said that the surplus of the food supplies which are donated by the government and charity organisations in Oman should go to the Yemeni people.
