Teams of Civil Defence, ambulance and police patrols rushed to the scene to evacuate people from the building, and coordinated their efforts to prevent the fire from spreading.

The National Bank of Kuwait took to Twitter to confirm all 2,500 workers were evacuated, and that 90 per cent of the fire was controlled by the General Directorate of Civil Defence.

“More than 2,500 workers were evacuated from the site in record time without any injuries,” said the bank.

No injuries were reported.

The 300-metre high skyscraper is located in the financial district of Sharq in Kuwait City, and was designed by the architecture and engineering firm Foster and Partners.

“The design combines structural innovation with a highly efficient passive form, shielding the offices from the extremes of Kuwait's climate, where temperatures average 40 degrees in the summer months,” it added.
