The father of Kuwaiti literature, Ismael Fahd Ismael, passed away at the age of 78, announced the Kuwait writers association.
The popular writer passed away on Tuesday morning in Kuwait, he was acclaimed as the finest and most creative writer in the history of Kuwait, with over twenty novels and many short story collections and publications to his credit.
Ismael Fahd Ismael was born in Basra in 1940, spending his childhood and adolescence there before coming to Kuwait.
The writer is considered as one of the best writers on Kuwaiti socio-political issues. His first novel 'The Sky was Blue' was published in 1970, which till today gets a lot of attraction in the literary Arab world.
And after that came many and many novels, some of them were turned into plays, along with his critical works such as 'Arabic novel in Kuwait' and 'The word- an act in Saadallah Wannous theatre'.
His novel 'The Phoenix' and 'the Faithful Friend' was longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2014.
His novel 'Al Sabiliat' was shortlisted for the 2017 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. The novel was published for the first time in 2015. 'Al Sabiliat' was the village in Basra, Iraq, where he was born and raised.
Many people took to social media to pay tribute to the writer and express their feelings. His son tweeted: “I did not expect this enormous amount of grief on my father’s death. I thank everyone for sharing their feelings on the departure of Arab and Kuwaiti Dean of Literature”.
