Manama: A café in the bustling Salmiya area of Kuwait City has been shut down for showing porno movies late in the evening, a local daily reported.

Al Rai newspaper said that the café had been put under surveillance following a tip that it screened pornographic movies.

Following the raid, the café was shut down and the owner summoned for investigation.

However, he said that he was not aware of the illegal activity and that it the idea of the employees.

Pornography is banned under Kuwaiti laws. Several internet cafés had their licences temporarily withdrawn for allowing access to pornographic sites and last August, Research in Motion agreed to block 3,000 pornographic websites for BlackBerry users in Kuwait.
