Cape Town: In what can be termed as a strange fate, a young woman was reunited with the father she had never met, with the help of Twitter.

Dlamini-Nkosi from Midrand South Africa on September 3 posted her father’s photograph on her Twitter timeline, saying she was looking for him, Times Live reported on Tuesday.

“Guys, I’m looking for my dad, I want to meet him. RT (retweet) for awareness, he could be your dad too,” @KatlehoMolai1 posted on her Twitter.

Soon after the post, some Twitter sleuths started sending through leads that helped the woman track her father.

The post has garnered over 9,600 retweets so far.

“Thank you so much to everyone for the RTs, I have found my dad and will be calling him later to set up a meeting. Dankie Twitter,” she posted on Tuesday. Her father is 70 now.

It was not easy for Nkosi to trace her father using Twitter’s help and she kept facing a myriad of questions from naysayers, along with those who really wanted to help her.

Some Twitter users responded by wondering if her quest might open a “can of worms”.

“Imagine finding out your father has other children outside his marriage and you have to reunite him with them,” one user wrote to Nkosi.

However, the young woman responded: “I’m an only child on my mom’s side, so all siblings are welcome.”

Nkosi said that her mother had called her father to set up a meeting. She said that they were “happy and excited”.
