Sharjah: Hundreds of passengers bound for Khartoum had to return home from the airport yesterday after their flight failed to arrive.

Flight Sud 236 was supposed to land at the Sharjah International Airport at 12.30 pm but its arrival time was suddenly changed to 11.30 pm.

Passengers said they were only told that it was a technical problem.

"There was nobody around to tell us what is happening," said one agitated passenger.

The signboard at the airport showed the new arrival timing as 23.30pm. But an airport staffer said it was still not sure when the plane would arrive 11 hours later.

All the passengers went home, grumbling that their Eid plans will be disrupted.

Eid Al Adha, or the feast of the sacrifice, begins today and the Sudanese expatriates were hoping to spend the holidays with their loved ones back home.

There was no information from the Sudan Air office.
